Jewish cemetery

Not far from the Christian cemetery, surrounded by the greenery of the Addizione Erculea, is the former Jew's Kitchen Garden, an area purchased by the Jewish Ferrarese community in the 17th century. It is an evocative, silent place dominated by nature, which embraces and almost envelops the simple gravestones. The oldest of them date back to the 1800s since those of the previous century had been uprooted and used for the column that supports the statue of Borso d’Este outside Palazzo Municipale. Among those of greatest artistic value is the recently laid tomb of the writer G. Bassani, who died in 2000, realized by the sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro.
