Comacchio - Stazione 2

Comacchio bears the sceptre of the capital of the Delta Park.

Its origins go back to the mediaeval epoch when the initial habitation was established along a chain of islands outcropping in the mouths of the Rover Po. Its fortunes and reverses were linked to the typical activities of the sea and salt water: fishing, salt production, wetland farming and working the reeds; these riches attracted attacks from Ravenna and Venice right up until the Papal period.

A visit to the historic centre is not to be missed, with its canals, monuments and bridges; neither is the Trepponti, symbol of the town; the 18^th Century Antico Ospedale degli Infermi; the 19^th Century Palazzo Bellini, next to which is the Ancient Delta Museum; the Marinating Factory, the works where eels and lagoon fish were processed.
