Ferrara Musica

Ferrara Musica is one of the most important Italian concert seasons, renowned throughout the world for the excellence and creativity of its programming. Created in 1989 by Claudio Abbado with the support of the City of Ferrara and the Cassa di Risparmio di Ferrara, its main mission is to provide a home to a young international orchestra.
From 1989 to 1997, the orchestra-in-residence was the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, which today is one of the most successful chamber orchestras in the world. The Mahler Chamber Orchestra took over in 1998, and is now one of the most sought-after chamber orchestras by prestigious concert halls around the world. For fifteen years now this chamber orchestra has found a home in Ferrara where it can create its unusual and exciting programs under the baton of great conductors and world-famous soloists. In 2007, the residency collaboration was renewed with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, which comes to Ferrara for two projects per year.
After their premiers in Ferrara, the resident orchestras take their concerts on tours to great concert halls around the world, taking the Ferrara Musica brand with them.

Another excellent opportunity are the Musica a Palazzo concerts performed by ensembles specializing in early and Baroque music in the splendid Sala dei Mesi in Palazzo Schifanoia. These concerts explore and rediscover this rich musical repertoire born in the city of Ferrara primarily during the D’Este family’s reign.
