The "All Saints' Mouse" is a very particular biscuit, shaped as a mouse, which is prepared in Comacchio only on November 1st and 2nd.

This biscuit is a reminder of the mice plague at the new cemetery of Comacchio, located in Valle Raibosola, after coming to an agreement with the French during the Napoleonic era. After a long period spent praying the Virgin, the mice finally disappeared. According to tradition, the families of Comacchio prepared those mouse-shaped sweets to exorcize the fear.

During these holidays, families prepare one biscuit for each member, so everyone can exorcize the ancient event enjoying a Topino d’Ognissanti.

The biscuit's dough is similar to a "ciambella" and is shaped like a small mouse. The eyes are made with raisins or candied cherries, resembling the eyes of mice in the night. A tradition that brings together history, legend and taste, celebrating the bond between Comacchio and its ancient traditions.
