The White Island can be visited on public holidays by prior booking at the LIPU headquarters in Ferrara at least one week in advance. Visits take place during the spring and summer months.

It is one of the oldest river islands of the River Po, dating back to the 15th–16th centuries.
Today it is of great natural importance, hosting as many as 92 plant species and 76 bird species, as well as numerous mammals, insects, amphibians and reptiles. The flora includes English oak, mulberry, black locust, white poplar, black poplar, elm and white willow. Among the birds are the great spotted woodpecker, the symbol of the oasis, and the rare European green woodpecker.
Mammals are mainly small species, including rodents and insectivores. Amphibians include the edible frog, agile frog, European tree frog, common toad and green toad. Reptiles include the grass snake, European green lizard and common wall lizard. Several species of freshwater turtles also live here.
How to get there
By car or bus: The island lies along the River Po, between Pontelagoscuro and Francolino, on the northern edge of the Urban Park. It can be reached by car or by bus (No. 11), departing from Pontelagoscuro and heading east along Via Ricostruzione; about 300 metres after the railway underpass you will reach the Visitor Centre.
By bicycle: From Ferrara, head north along cycle path FE203, then turn left towards Bondeno to reach the Isola Bianca Nature Oasis area, which connects to:the Destra Po cycle route
