Oasi di Protezione della Fauna “Mulino del Po”
Timetable
Temporarily closed.
It includes the floodplain areas and the strips of land bordering the river, made famous by Riccardo Bacchelli’s celebrated masterpiece The Mill on the Po, and mentioned in the Ministerial Decree of 18 May 1999 declaring the river and agricultural areas known as the “Bacchellian Places” to be of significant public interest.
The typical landscape of the Po riverbanks, with groves of willows and poplars that provide shelter for wildlife, together with the surrounding countryside—rich in hedgerows and tree-lined paths—evokes for visitors the evocative atmosphere described by Bacchelli, further enhanced by the historical reconstruction of the ancient mill. Nearby, a commemorative plaque placed by the Province of Ferrara honours the mighty poplar at whose foot, according to the novel, Lazzaro Scacerni set up the piarda.
Close by stands the “Arboreto da seme” (Seed Arboretum) of the State Forestry Corps, a small woodland of typical trees and shrubs intended for scientific, educational and reforestation purposes.
