Jazz Club

The Jazz Club is located inside the evocative Torrione di San Giovanni, on the East side of the city walls, and offers a vast yearly program that includes some of the best national and international jazz musicians.

On April 27th, 1977, the “Circolo Amici del Jazz” (which would then become the Jazz Club Ferrara) began operation and to date, there have been no interruptions. Among the most prestigious events during these years, are the numerous editions of the Comacchio Summer Festival, the successful winter season in cooperation with the Teatro comunale di Ferrara and exciting performances by great artists such as Miles Davis, Ornette Coleman, Jackie McLean, Joao Gilberto, George Benson, McCoy Tyner, Wynton Marsalis, Elvin Jones, Michel Petrucciani, Mingus Big Band, Count Basie Big Band, Cedar Walton, Joe Henderson and many more.

Since 1999, the Jazz Club has been headquartered in the prestigious Torrione San Giovanni (a splendid Renaissance rampart that is part of the city walls) where, thanks to the contribution of the City of Ferrara, the Emilia-Romagna region and the valuable collaboration of private partners, members are able to enjoy over 50 concerts running from early October until late April. The greatest international jazz artists have performed on the Torrione stage, making this what many call one of the best jazz clubs in Europe. In recent years, ties with Ferrara Musica, Ferrara Arte, the G. Frescobaldi Conservatory of Ferrara, the Memorial MIrto Govoni, Crossroads – Jazz and others in the Emilia-Romagna regions as well as the Bologna Jazz Festival and many other partners have been strengthened, leading to initiatives that once again have placed the Jazz Club Ferrara at the centre of the city’s, province’s and region’s cultural life.
