Jewish Ghetto

The origins of Ferrara's Jewish community date back to ancient times. The ghetto was established in 1627 by the papal government, which, after the devolution of 1598, put an end to the previous liberal policy. The area included what are now Via Mazzini, Via Vignatagliata and Via Vittoria.
