Typical Melon from Emilia
News about melons grown in the Ferrarese countryside first came from Cristoforo da Messisbugo, main chef in the Este family, who recounted that this fruit was widely grown both in the city and the surrounding area.
The main and highest quality melons are grown in Bondeno, especially in the nearby towns Gavello and Zerbinate, where it is grown using traditional methods.
The melon has an orange pulp, is rich in vitamin A, vitamin C and calcium, lacking proteins and fats. It is very sweet and sugary, versatile in the kitchen.
It can be eaten with prosciutto crudo as a main dish or with a pinch of salt as a dessert but also in fruit salads. With its firm and orange pulp, it is a tasty, refreshing and healthy fruit.
It is currently waiting for the IGP certification approval.
