The exhibition starts with the anthropological research of the late 1950s, to get to the 1960s with their social and cultural fights. In the 70s, photography enhances the dramatic conflicts between culture and politics, while in the 80s it was possible to fight for civil and social rights, women emancipation, human rights. Art and photography stand aside this changes, and they support the feelings of the individual.
Female photographers had always been aware of those changes, looking at the most interesting subjects and themes with a strong connection to society, anthropological heritage and also the inner sphere of psychology.
13 photographers are reunited in this exhibition: Paola Agosti, Diane Arbus, Letizia Battaglia, Giovanna Borgese, Lisetta Carmi, Carla Cerati, Francoise Demulder, Mari Mahr, Lori Sammartino, Chiara Samugheo, Leena Saraste, Francesca Woodman, Petra Wunderlich.
The event has been ogranized by the UDI - Biennale Donna Committee (Lola G. Bonora, Silvia Cirelli, Ada Patrizia Fiorillo, Catalina Golban, Elisa Leonini, Anna Quarzi, Ansalda Siroli, Dida Spano, Liviana Zagagnoni) and by the Contemporary Art Galleries, with the patronage of  Regione Emilia-Romagna.
