Sculptures by Maurizio Bonora in the garden of Palazzo Schifanoia.
To mark the 30th anniversary of the inclusion of “Ferrara, city of the Renaissance” in the UNESCO World Heritage List, the garden of the Este family's Schifanoia palace is hosting Maurizio Bonora's The Astrological Muses, offering an emblematic dialogue between past and present.
Bonora drew inspiration from the astrological symbols decorating the Salone dei Mesi (Hall of the Months), creating twelve pedestals for this exhibition with figures standing on ships and chariots, holding suns and moons. On top of these are sculptures, created since 1990, depicting the personifications of the hours of the day and night.
The new “double creatures”, which evoke the structure of the classical herm, harmoniously combine figuration and abstraction, archaism and modernity. Bonora's muses appear among the arches of the garden pergola, igniting the magic of one of the most secret and representative places of the Este court.
Opening hours: 10.00- 19.00. Closed on Monday.
