Bundan Celtic Festival
Folklore and festivals
Every year one of the greatest and nicest Celtic Festival of Italy is held along the banks of the river Po, in the beautiful park of the mighty Fortress of Stellata di Bondeno...
The Reawakening of the Celts
In the heat of July, spend three marvellous evenings immersed in the green countryside, transported to a distant era in which man discovered the strength of iron and, due to its particular geographical conformation, the area around Bondeno was called Bundan (bowl) by its Celtic inhabitants, the Lingones.
Numerous historical re-enactment groups from all over Northern Italy offer a slice of Celtic life, wearing period dress and jewels they paint their faces and style their hair, faithful to the surviving Greek and Roman accounts of this population, brandishing axes and swords among the huts and menhirs of a fantastic Celtic village. In the historical part of the village you can also see a group of able artisans demonstrating their ancient trades.
Every night the festival commences with the ritual lighting of a great bonfire, accompanied by the sound of beating drums and wailing bagpipes. Afterwards, you can eat at the festival banquet, enjoying traditional foods from the Emilia-Romagna region; there are exciting stories for the kids to listen to, you can stroll among the stalls of friendly artisans, take part in traditional games, participate in fascinating conferences, and get swept away by the captivating Celtic melodies.
